In this episode we will explore the importance of being trauma aware in educational spaces. By first defining trauma, and providing important framing to the topic, we will then explore trauma-informed principles and practices that can be applied in different contexts. The episode provides many resources to expand reading and knowledge of how trauma can impact engagement for learners and peers, and how to support through awareness and accessible pedagogical design.

Thanks, Ann. Really great explanation of an accessible trauma-informed pedagogy with SAMHSA. I wish I’d had understood better my own lack in principle 5 in particular back when I was teaching. Your work with the AWCCA must have been liberatory for students. I always stumbled around awkwardly with being aware with trauma and teaching, in and out of the classroom, while I navigated my own sometimes indirect triggers. Constant second guessing. Thanks again for this. Real praxis and real accessibility. -Chris
